Building a Minimal Blog with Next.js

This site is intentionally minimal. Here's how it works under the hood.

Content as files

Every article lives in a docs/ directory as a numbered folder:

docs/
  001-hello-world/
    index.md
  002-building-a-minimal-blog/
    index.md

Each index.md starts with YAML frontmatter for metadata:

---
title: "Building a Minimal Blog with Next.js"
description: "..."
date: "2026-10-05"
tags: [web, nextjs, engineering]
---

Rendering

I use gray-matter to parse frontmatter and remark to render markdown to HTML. The articles page groups posts by tag.

Feeds and SEO

  • RSS and Atom feeds at /feed.xml
  • A sitemap.xml and robots.txt
  • Per-page Open Graph and JSON-LD metadata

The result is fast, static, and easy to maintain.
